So finally the day has come and me and Lubi are on our way to Kathmandu! But let me take you few hours back first.
Excited and happy that my vacation is almost here, I woke up on a Thursday morning and got ready for work. I put some nice music on and prepared my breakfast and ate it. I opened the dishwasher and saw that the dishes were not arranged in a space-saving order, so with good mood I decided to reorganize. Usually I would just close the dishwasher and leave my dirty dishes in the sink. And that’s exactly what I should have done.
When I bended forward and reached for a dirty bowl to put it in the correct place, something pinched in my lower back, I saw white light in front of my eyes and almost fell on the floor from how much it was hurting.
Sister tried to helped me but with no luck, so I called the doctor in emergency.. The doctor gave me a shot to relax my muscles but the only thing it did was that heat waves were coming every two minutes and my back stil hurt, no improvement..
What a day to pinch my lower back, rigt? As if I had a nothing better to do, for sure not a 3 week trek in the Himalayas..😓
Anyway, equipped with medications against muscle pain, we boarded the plane. Firstly we flew to Belgrade, then quickly boarded the plane to Abu Dhabi and after 6 hours we landed in UAE. The plan was to visit the Grand Mosque (and get dressed in abaya😍), then go for a walk at the promenade, eat something and come back to the airport. It almost happened! Almost…. Except that it was Friday, and Friday is a prayer day in Arab countries. So the mosque was closed and opened only at 4:30 pm (as a nice Arab guy at the security explained, while handing two waters to us), which was already too late for us, no abayas😭
This is how it looked from the outside. So at least I have a reason to come back again hihi
And we rewarded ourselves with a nice breakfast at least😊
At 2pm we departed from Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways to Kathmandu. After nearly 5 hours we landed here, applied for visa, took a taxi to the hotel, checked in and extremely tired with noticeable back pain went to sleep.
In the morning at 9:30, our guide was supposed to pick us up to arrange additional paperwork and payment and I must say that alarm at 8:30 was the last thing I wanted to hear. He was there at 9:30 sharp, immediately recognizing us. Because we were late, we set off at 10 at last and he took us to the office. All the streets here look exactly the same so I was lost after the first turn.
He also went through the itinerary again and I freak out a bit. Altitude sickness, 9h treks, waking up at 4am.. I just hope my back will stop hurting by that time🙏
We then arranged Nepali SIM cards, went for a massage (which didn’t help☹️) and did some trekking supplies shopping (as if we didn’t have enough already😁).
For lunch I had Thai curry with rice and it might have been the best Thai curry I’ve ever had so far! Then we did more shopping, more walking and that was it for the day. Tomorrow we plan to do some sightseeing around here and get ready for the trek on Monday😊✌️️
