The bus ride from Kathmandu to Besi Sahar (840m) took forever -almost 7h to be more specific. Following are the most important points from the ride: no AC, very limited leg space, right shoulder sunburnt from the opened window, extremely loud Nepali music.
We started our trekking right after arriving to Besi Sahar and went to a small village called Ngadi (900m). Prakash said it will take 2h, LP guide said 4h, so we reached there in 3h😜 There was an ongoing construction for most of the time and it just didn’t feel right. I didn’t get the feeling of being in untouched environment with wild nature all around me as in the Everest region. Instead I saw Chinese posters and dozers everywhere. Chinese – because Chinese government is funding the hydro-electric power plant program. So sad. I know it’s all happening because there’s demand from the tourist side but still.. I just hope they won’t completely devastate the nature all around.
The guest house was very cozy and I really liked the garden outside. Can’t say the same thing about beds. It was basically a wooden plank covered in 1cm thick mattress and I had the craziest dreams over there. I’m sure I woke up screaming several times. And there was this funny thing – I woke up once and saw it’s 1am.. Then I woke up again and I see it’s 23:16! And when you’re sleepy and something weird is going on, your brain just shuts down😅 So for a while I was thinking the time is going backwards and my mind is going forward. It was just so confusing haha. But I think it would be a good movie idea😉
Next day (today) we set off to Jagat (1330m), a 6h long trekking, starting at 7:30, right after breakfast. It was long. Sometimes going in the shadow, then in the sun, uphill or downhill..You know, the usual Nepali way.
I met few other trekkers on the way so we tagged along and continued to Chamje (1410m) and skipped Jagat because it was a bit too early to stop trekking for that day (13:30). The way to Chamje led through a mini jungle which was cool and our guest house is right opposite huge waterfall. Nice view but it will be very loud at nigt😉
So at 14:30, after 7h we reached the destination for today. Shower was sometimes warm but mosty cold and I’m super hungry now. My watch says I made 30k steps, walked 22km and climbed 280 floors (840m – might be correct actually because you’re always going up and down, not just up).. The total elevation of today was around 600m.. I admit I’m pretty tired😄 Especially when walking in such heat, it’s around 30 degrees during the day but nights get cold, temperatures drop to 10 degrees. I didn’t expect I will need my sleeping bag in such low altitude to be honest. But was glad I had it with me last night, that’s for sure.
