Starting early morning, we set out to cross the Cho La pass. From Dzongla, we were gradually going up for about 300m of elevation, until we reached the mountain.
I must say that the climb to the top was probably the most fun for me. Everybody was saying yesterday that Cho La is more technically challenging than physically, and they were right, but I didn’t mind at all!
We had to rock climb basically and the way up was not always very visible, so I had to search for it while climbing through rocks as big as me (or even bigger). But really, I enjoyed every second of it and the music I was listening to helped a lot as well.
And the view!! Ah, so amazing! I’ll try to upload the pics here, so you can see for yourself.
Then we reached a glacier. But not rocky, almost melted one, a proper one with snow and everything😊 First Himalayan snow for me! Yay! I had so much fun crossing it, it felt like a proper winter – snow cracking underneath my feat and everything so white and clear. But also slippery, with very dangerous parts. We had to cross through very narrow path on a half frozen cliff – one wrong step and I would fall 200m down to the ice and rocks.
And then, after one last steep climb, we reached Cho La. Not a 360 view, but also nice.
I really don’t mind going up, but what I hate the most is going down. Especially over big rocks. And the way down took forever! I was angry at the mountain, at the cold and basically at everything. Down, down, down all the way to some small village I don’t remember. Prakash wanted to stop for lunch but I knew that if I’ll do it, I won’t be able to continue anymore. My feet were hurting so much!
So we went directly to Gokyo. Through glacier again😩 A never ending climb up and down, although not as difficult as Khumbu glacier. But I was so tired already, hungry, since my last meal were two toasts with jam, so I think my body was already eating itself. And the crossing took me 2h. Then we reached Gokyo.
In total, we made it in 8h. But I couldn’t appreciate the beautiful Gokyo lake that showed up right in front of me. I just ate my lunch and went to sleep for a while. Then at 5pm I went to the dining hall, warmed up a bit and went to sleep again. I slept for 12h.
