It might seem as a surprise to many of you, but Lubi had to fly back to Kathmandu with a helicopter today. Since Namche, she was experiencing some mild AMS symptoms (nausea, belly pain and then headache), but unfortunately they were not getting better and still with 3 passes above 5000m ahead of us, she decided to finish her trekking here in Chukhung.
So after consulting with Prakash and Suman (leader), they agreed to call a helicopter to pick Lubi up. It arrived around half past ten and flew directly to Kathmandu, where Lubi was hospitalized overnight. Yup, helicopter is covered by our insurance and everything was organized through the agency we are trekking with.
Since I don’t have any symptoms of AMS anymore (I just had slight headache during the first few days) and feel quite well (knock-knock), I decided to continue with our trek. And because it was already too late to cross the Kongma La pass, we took another rest day here.
So I literally didn’t do anythig – just sitting around in the dining hall, reading book, checking my solar charger (today it charged to 99%, amazing performance, since it was already charged to 62%), eating, watching the mountains above me and chatting with other trekkers
Tomorrow the Kongma La pass awaits, so 7-9h trek is ahead of me and based on the recommendations from others, it should be very worth the climb. However, no guesthouses or restaurants are there on the way, so I’ll probably finish my cookie supplies, that should be enough energy for me We’ll take lunch after arriving to Lobuche.
And Lubi, get better soon! Next time it will work out!
